Investment consolidation and diversification - It may sound like a contradiction, but for many clients we have been able to pull together multiple accounts "under one roof" and yet improve the diversification of their portfolio. Those clients benefited from simplification of reporting, reduction in overall volatility, and opportunities for higher returns.
Guaranteed income stream for life - The concern for many retirees is out-living their finances. It takes more than empty promises to solve. Using our experience and broad investment knowledge, we are able to provide guaranteed income that still has the possibility to increase over time. Equally important, is balancing the guaranteed income to availability of funds when unexpected demands occur.
Amended tax return - When asked to review one small business owner's entire financial situation, we found multiple deductions not taken on the previous year's tax return because the previous preparer did not have the benefit of knowing about the client's retirement contributions (and the client did not know to bring it up). An amendment was filed with the IRS resulting in a refund to the client.
Flexible college funding - There are multiple ways to set aside money for future educational expenses, and we have helped clients find the most beneficial means based on a number of different scenarios. One family with four children worried that one or more of them would not go to college; with 529 plans, those parents were able to provide for multiple possible outcomes, knowing that the beneficiary could be changed to other family members if funds were not used by the original beneficiary. For another family with only one child, we recommended a Variable Universal Life insurance policy with a substantial death benefit and an accessible cash value which could be used for any purpose or left to accumulate and reduce premium outlay in the future.
Long Term Care insurance updated - One long time client with the wisdom to purchase Long Term Care insurance, found that even a compounding benefit fell behind the rate of inflation for health care costs. We were able to design an "add-on" policy that allowed the couple to leave their less expensive policy in place, while augmenting their benefits with a newer generation product to bridge the gap.
Group Retirement Plan - A mid-sized business client, concerned about his employees' retirement, had introduced a 401(k) plan through another company, but participation lagged without ongoing investment guidance for employees. We took over the plan and arranged for monthly sessions to inform new employees and counsel existing employees about their options in the plan, resulting in higher participation rates and greater value in the plan.
Tax-efficient Estate Plan - A wealthy couple we work with was concerned about the impact estate taxes would have on the legacy they wanted to leave for their children. Along with a local attorney, we were able to design a gifting program that, during their lifetime, funded a life insurance policy which, upon the death of the second spouse, would generate a death benefit large enough to pay the anticipated tax bill. They now rest easy knowing their heirs will receive the full benefit of their estate.
